Abstract:

Anna Ilinichna and Vera Ilinichna Tolstoys are Leo Tolstoy’s granddaughters, the daughters of the writer’s second son Iliya Tolstoy. Spiritual beliefs of the writer affected much Anna Ilinichna and Vera Ilinichna’s personality formation. Anna and Vera’s parents did not like the atmosphere of the landowner´s life. A.I. Tolstoy engaged in educational activity a lot, she delivered lectures about her grandfather and life in Yasnaya Polyana and wrote some biographical works about her family. The writer’s granddaughters experienced the pressure of the Soviet authority. V.I. Tolstoy emigrated in 1919 when she was 16. Then she worked as an announcer at the radio-station «The Voice of America» more than 20 years.
