Abstract:

The article tells about the General Designer, academician, colonel-general-engineer, three times Hero of Socialist Labor Andrei Nikolaevich Tupolev (1888—1972), with whose name the history of domestic and world aviation is inseparably linked. Under his leadership, more than 100 projects of combat and civil aircraft were developed, many of them were produced in mass series. In the design office A.N. Tupolev was created the first domestic all-metal aircraft, the world´s first heavy bomber-monoplane, jet airliner, supersonic passenger aircraft. On vehicles with the brand ANT and TU, 78 records were set, 28 unique flights were made, including across the North Pole to the USA.
