Abstract:

The article deals with the image of the outstanding female scientist Hypatia of Alexandria in the film «Agora» by Spanish Director Alejandro Amenabar. Analyzing the cinematic plot and modern historical research, the author comes to the conclusion that some storylines have a full historical basis. Nevertheless the film retains a significant share of artistic fiction.
