Abstract:

The article analyzes the life and customs of Russian society of the XVIII—XIX centuries based on the stories of the Russian writer P. I. Melnikov (Andrey Pechersky). The author reveals a wide range of customs and traditions of everyday life, which are manifested in the behavior, communication and way of life of representatives of different layers of Russian society: the peasantry, merchants, officials, landlords, educated people, and Church leaders.
