Abstract:

The article is devoted to the work of Sebastian Vrancx, the Flemish artist of the XVII th century. The artist created paintings on the theme of battle genre and landscape. The author analyzes the technique of painting by Sebastian Vrancx, discusses the themes and style of his works. The pictures by Vrancx are compared with the works of Pauwels van Hillegaert, his Dutch contemporary. The reliability of the depicted events is investigated. The author concludes about the compositional synthesis of landscape and battle genre in the artist´s works.
