Abstract:

The article analyzes the work of the Russian writer V. A. Sleptsov. It is noted that the author in his works considers such topical issues as the abolition of serfdom in Russia, the situation of peasants who were obliged to buy land plots from landlords. It is shown that V. A. Sleptsov was able to reveal the complexity of the socio-political and economic life of Russian society in the 60s of the XIX century by artistic means. Attention is drawn to the fact that the writer, with the help of his characters, managed to convey the tension in society and the need for advanced people in political and social transformations in Russia
