Abstract: In 2021, Russia celebrates the 80th anniversary of the defense of Tula during the Great Patriotic War. The article highlights a number of episodes of the defense of Tula related to the problem of the city´s life support. On the basis of documentary materials - data from archives, memoirs of active participants in the events, newspaper publications - a conclusion is drawn about the coordinated actions of the leadership of Tula in the most critical period of the military history of the city.
