Abstract:

The article examines the activities of Ivan IV, aimed at asserting the personal royal will over the system of boyar communal government. The realization of this attempt was carried out with the help of manking the moral expectations of the people in the image of the prince-ruler. As a result, the first attempt to implement absolute autocracy was revealed, based on fear, threats, political intrigues and arbitrariness. Ivan the Terrible is presented as a political phenomenon with unprecedented mental phobias, which were the main engines of the processes of change in the state.
